As 2024 unfolds, a wave of new legislation has emerged across various sectors, signaling shifts in policy that affect numerous industries, communities, and individuals. While many of these laws aim to address long-standing issues, some have raised concerns regarding their implementation and impact.

What is a work legislation and purpose of it

A legislation is a law or new set of laws that is set by the government to help regulate the relationship between employers and employees to ensure that everyone works in a fair and diverse workplace to ensure that businesses, employees and consumers are protected from any issues. The main purpose of this law is to protect the rights of all employers and employees. The rights include fair pay, safe working conditions, Protection from discrimination, written terms of employment and leave such as leave holiday, maternity leave and paternity pay.

Why should it concern me?

As the numbers of employment rises there will be many consequences workers could face such as tax issues, payment problems and business closure if both employees and employers do not follow new legislation laws. More to mention HMRC has the power to stop you from working and give you a hefty fine if you are not following the new legislation laws, meaning that you lose business or potentially be forced to close which may lead to bankruptcy. However, to be problem free and prevent from facing these issues we would recommend joining Amex as we will be able to help you and prevent facing these kinds of issues as we use robust frameworks, crafted contracts and our specialist team will guide you the right way without having to face fines or issues with HMRC.

While wage increases are designed to help workers cope with inflation, they may inadvertently lead to layoffs or reduced hiring as companies struggle to afford higher payroll costs.

However under the new Employer Rights Bill 2024 workers can be in a vulnerable position in losing their job as this new law imposes a probation period meaning that workers can be easily let go within months if employers do not see their employee fit for the allocated job position. In addition, under the new flexible working bill 2024 flexible working could be inevitable as these new laws have given employers the right to reject a request of flexible working for their own business reasons making work-life balance challenging for some employees.

Additionally, the new legislation in certain industries, such as construction, requires all contractors to transition to the PAYE scheme, which may result in a loss of income per individual. This is where we can assist you and your business.

What are the problems you could face?

As these new laws come into effect there are many issues businesses and workers can face such as tax issues, contract issues for both business owners and the employee, financial struggles and penalties for failing to follow new laws. These new laws can be very difficult for businesses that are unaware of these changes and those who are self-employed or even sub-contractors as they could face fines from HMRC or even business closures putting them into dangerous positions such as bankruptcy or even lawsuits if they are not following the new legislations and if they are not compliant and if they are caught working without any contracts in place, They will face terrible consequences and lose the ability to have their own business even working on their own terms.

More to mention workers could face work-life balance issues if they are not permitted to work flexibly causing them issues with managing tasks in their own time. The new employment laws can also jeopardize the future of workers affecting them financially long term and for other job opportunities they may find it hard for new roles or even finding a new job.
